David Tennant reads James Bond: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

AudioGO have revealed information of the upcoming range of James Bond ‘007 Reloaded’ unabridged audiobooks, read by various well-known faces.

As one of the twelve actors, David Tennant is reading ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’, the release of which includes an exclusive bonus interview with the Tenth Doctor himself. The cover has also been released alongside the other 007 Reloaded readings.

In his Alpine base, Blofeld is developing biological weapons that will devastate Britain. Unaware of the danger, James Bond is about to get married to Teresa di Vicenzo, the daughter of a Corsican Mafioso. But then he is sent to Switzerland. Rory Williams action figure finally on it’s way

Almost two and a half years since Rory Williams (played by RADA-trained Arthur Darvill) became an official companion aboard the TARDIS, we finally have a picture of the long-awaited action figure of “the Boy Who Waited”, made by Character Options.

The action figure has been sculpted and painted in a more generic non-episode-specific outfit from Series 5, which closely resembles his costume from ‘Amy’s Choice’: jeans, a blue body-warmer, and a red shirt (red hoodie in the episode).

Rory Pond’s (nee Williams) action figure is set for release in late September for £9.99 RRP in the UK.

‘Ace Adventures’ DVD Box Set Release

BBC Worldwide (formerly 2|entertain) have distributed the details and DVD cover of the upcoming release of the box set centred around every Whovian’s favourite Dorothy (McShane, that is!), entitled Ace Adventures.

The box set, reported a year ago by DWF, comprises Ace’s first story in 1987’s 3-part serial ‘Dragonfire’ (also the departing story for Mel, played by Bonnie Langford), and 1988’s 4-part serial ‘The Happiness Patrol’.

In the classic-era stories Dragonfire and The Happiness Patrol, Ace joins the Seventh Doctor aboard the TARDIS and is soon battling a biomechanoid and liberating a world where just feeling sad can get you shot!

‘Nightmare of Eden’ DVD Release

‘Nightmare of Eden’ marked the final time that Bob Baker (co-creator of K-9) wrote for the Doctor Who franchise, until the 2010 Australian-made series K9. Interestingly, the Mandrels in this classic story are also referenced in the K9 episode ‘Curse of Anubis’.

‘The Dæmons’ DVD Release

You can now adorn your bedroom walls with the new BBC-licensed wallpaper of the TARDIS walls that featured within the greatest time/-space-travelling machine during the televised years 1977-89. There are two strips of wallpaper to select from – “unbelievably colour matched to a paint sample from the 1983 screen Control Room Set!” – which are the iconic classic-series’ TARDIS roundels (unfortunately does not feature genuine Chameleon Circuit controls), while the other is a strip for the classic-series’ TARDIS columns.

Fourth Doctor & Count Scarlioni - Action Figure Set

A new action figure double-pack set of the classic series 1979 serial ‘City of Death’, widely regarded as one of the best Doctor Who stories not only of the Douglas Adams era but of all time. The double-figure set feature both the Fourth Doctor as played by Tom Baker, and ‘present day’ Count Scarlioni (played by Julian Glover) who also comes with an interchangeable head  to replace with that of the Scaroth’s.

The set has been made by Character Options and will be available exclusively to Forbidden Planet International and ForbiddenPlanet.com online, which strangely seems to be becoming common practice for Doctor Who classic series action figures these days, despite their success being sold in normal waves previously.

River Song & Pandorica Chair – Action Figure Set

Underground Toys have revealed further details and image shots of the very first action figure of an Eleventh Doctor-era River Song alongside a scale-size Pandorica chair, which fits in with the Character Options-produced Pandorica walls that came part of a previous wave.

The River Song action figure comes in her outfit from ‘The Pandorica Opens’ and includes her own gun, while the Pandorica chair is in scale with all the Doctor Who action figure range and even fits the standard Eleventh Doctor figure into it’s clamps (as shown in an image below).

     Of all the people who have travelled or will travel with the Doctor, River Song is the most enigmatic of them all. She always seems to be one step ahead of the Doctor, even when he’s in her past. Nobody has been able to figure out how River knows the Doctor so well, although there have been plenty of guesses!


     Although River is a force to be reckoned with, she sometimes needs the Doctor’s help – whether it’s against the Vashta Nerada or the Weeping Angels, or any of the other foes they have faced, or even will face in future. Confused? It will all become clear... one day...

Leela Action Figure – More Pictures

Since the news recently of an exclusive Leela action figure made by Underground Toys, the toys company have released a further set of promotional shots of the figure in and out of packaging and its scale-size accessories that come with it. Although it doesn’t seem to hold any particular resemblance towards Louise Jameson – the actress who portrayed the popular Doctor Who companion from 1977-78 – the action figure has a good level of detail and articulation to it.

A soon-to-be-released San Diego Comic Con 2011 exclusive action figure of the much-loved Fourth Doctor companion Leela, portrayed on screen by actress Louise Jameson from 1977 to 1978 in Seasons 14 and 15. The exclusive Leela action figure - produced by big toys company Underground Toys - also comes with numerous pieces of weaponry, including a dagger, a Janus thorn and a crossbow.

Torchwood Prequel Novels

The covers and synopses of the three Torchwood novels previously announced by Russell T Davies (when he also gave further information on the upcoming Torchwood audio dramas) have now been released by BBC Books. All three novels act individually as prequels to Torchwood: Miracle Day, telling the stories of how the team members and events reach their positions in the new TV series…

Torchwood: First Born - by James Goss

Blue Peter TARDIS Winner Toy Playset

Character Options have released official images and details of an action figure toy playset of the “Junk TARDIS Console Playset” built by The Doctor and Idris in the scrapyard of dead TARDISes on the House asteroid.

The TARDIS was designed by then-12-year-old Susannah Leah as part of a Blue Peter Design-A-TARDIS competition launched last year, originally meant to be featured in Series 5 but was delayed along with ‘the Doctor’s Wife’ due to budget restrictions.

‘My Mysterious Doctor’ Poster

Following the posters released last year, such as the Crack In Time poster and the The Pandorica Opens poster of Van Gogh’s TARDIS exploding painting, the BBC have now given the official nod for a release of the painting shown during the opening minutes of ‘The Impossible Astronaut’, last Saturday, of a painting of the Eleventh Doctor in a Poseidon-like pose.

Ace-Themed DVD Box Set

The company 2|Entertain – the bods behind the Doctor Who DVD releases - have announced a new classic-series DVD box set through their Classic Dr Who DVD-centric Twitter feed focussing on Sylvester McCoy’s Seventh Doctor’s companion Dorothy “Ace” McShane…

“The Ace Box commissioned and in production.”

They later then said…

“Ace Box = two Classic stories featuring the feisty companion. Titles to be released at a later date.”

While we have no details other than this at the moment, it is likely that the box set will consist of Ace’s most popular serials and the stories most to do with her story-arc during her time on the series.
