'The Last Sontaran' Part 1 Ratings

I'm sure you all know that Sarah Jane Adventures returned to our screens yesterday. The unofficial ratings clearly show its popularity, an estimated 0.7 million viewers tuned in for 'The Last Sontaran' part 1 yesterday.

Yes, I know what you're thinking, that's not a lot. However, when you compare those figures to CBBC's average rating for that time slot is 0.4 million viewers. So SJA Series 2's first episode got almost double the usual!

The 11th Doctor *SPOILERS*

DailyRecord.co.uk revealed last Thursday that River Song (who we've already seen in Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead), played by Alex Kingston, is in fact the Doctor's wife!

Russell T Davies wrote in his new book, The Writer's Tale, which is composed of emails between RTD and Doctor Who Magazine writer Benjamin Cook: "We've cast Alex Kingston as River Song. Alex Kingston. I bloody love her. Alex Kingston is the Doctor's wife." But he originally wanted Kate Winslet in this role.

About this year's Christmas special, Russell wrote: "It's the Doctor paired with a new Doctor. The best title would be The Two Doctors but maybe not. The New Doctor perhaps? Or the Next Doctor? I quite like the Next Doctor."

Since then, yes, 'The Next Doctor' is the Christmas 2008 special's title and, yep you got it, David Morrisey is the Doctor. But don't think Morrisey is taking over at Christmas because in DWM #400 RTD said that David Tennant is the Doctor in all 5 of the 2009 specials as well and will have a different companion each time.

So, maybe David Morrisey's 11th Doctor will be married to River Song? Who Knows?
Please comment.

Doctor Who Series 4 Soundtrack Cover

Exciting news of a Doctor Who soundtrack for Series 4 have been officially confirmed by the music company Silva Screen (see the official cover below). The music from the episodes of Doctor Who are composed by Murray Gold (as if you didn't know already) and the rumours of a Series 4 soundtrack and what might be on it have been rife in fandom for a while now. The soundtrack will be released in November and I am definitely getting mine!

Silva Screen released this article on their website yesterday (18/9/08):

"Silva Screen will be releasing Murray Gold’s music for series four of Doctor Who in November. The music from the previous three series have proved to be bestellers and have appeared on the UK Albums chart. This much anticipated collection will include Song Of Freedom, the stirring choral piece that celebrated the defeat of the Daleks in the final episode of the series and proved to be a major hit at the recent Doctor Who Prom."

Keep checking back here because as soon as more information of this soundtrack is released, I'll notify you!

Russell T Davies has said in his new book, 'The Writer's Tale', that if it was up to him Russell Tovey (who played Midshipman Alonso Frame in the Xmas07 special, The Voyage of the Damned) would become the 11th Doctor: "Russell Tovey as Midshipman Frame, which is my favourite casting of the lot, because he's going to be huge, that man. There's also the biggest competition we've EVER run, a FREE double-sided poster, and EIGHT EXTRA pages, all for the usual price of £3.99!"

McGann To Return?

The Sun newspaper do like to tease us Doctor Who fans with possible spoilers! This time they're claiming that the Eighth Doctor, played by Paul McGann, will return in 1 or all of the 2009 specials.

McGann is apparently going to start filming in October or November this year. There are rumours that he will be in a flashback scene "battered from the Time War and shorn of the long hair he had in the film."

An 'insider' said this: “Fans loved Paul’s Doctor and feel he was never given the proper chance to shine. Reference is often made to the Time War which wiped out the Time Lords and this will give them a taste of that.”

What do you think? Please comment.

Part Two - Sarah Jane's investigation into Spellman and Odd Bob the Clown takes her to a meteorite at the Pharos Institute. But Spellman's plot to make all of Park Vale's pupils vanish leads Sarah Jane into a confrontation with her own childhood fears in a bid to save Luke.

INTRODUCTION:
The Doctor's former companion returns to our screens in this BBC Children's drama adventure series produced by current Doctor Who supremo Russell T Davies.

Now working as an investigative journalist, Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) discovers that life back on Earth can be just as mysterious, exciting and dangerous as exploring time and space in the TARDIS.

Together with her young friends Rani and Clyde, and her adopted, genetically engineered, son Luke, Sarah Jane comes face to face with a whole host of weird and wonderful alien beings.

CHARACTERS:
Sarah Jane Smith played by Elisabeth Sladen
Sarah Jane Smith is well acquainted with saving the world. An old friend and companion of the Doctor, Sarah Jane has travelled the universe, solving mysteries, tackling monsters and fighting alien foe all the way. Her travelling days may be behind her, but as a journalist with a nose for trouble, Sarah Jane often finds herself on amazing adventures closer to home. With the help of her adopted son, Luke, his best mate Clyde and their new neighbour Rani, along with her sonic lipstick, and the alien computer Mr Smith, she must defend Earth from extraterrestrial threats and monsters.

Luke Smith played by Thomas Knight
14-year-old Luke Smith looks just like any other normal teenage boy, but look closer and you'll see that he's very, very special. Grown by the alien Bane as The Archetype in their plan for world domination, Luke has the brain power of 10,000 people but, as he's only really a year or so old, his understanding of the world around him is sometimes lacking. But he's a fast learner, and his intelligence often proves key in saving the day.

Clyde Langer played by Daniel Anthony
Clyde Langer is 15, confident and the team joker, happiest when taking on aliens and monsters to save the planet. He lives with his mum, loves football, has a flair for art (which he keeps quiet cos it's not always seen as that cool) and has a healthy disrespect for authority. When teamed with Luke's intelligence, Rani's instincts and Sarah Jane's experience, the friends are a force to be reckoned with.

Rani Chandra played by Anjli Mohindra
15, inquisitive, smart and sassy. Wants to be a journalist, a sort of junior Sarah Jane, and thus idolises Sarah Jane just a little and in return, Sarah Jane takes her happily on her investigations. Gets on well with her parents, although she's always embarrassed that her dad is the new Head Teacher at Park Vale. Rani enjoys Luke's company because they're both quite bright and eager to learn. However, she's equally fond of Clyde because he's cool and a bit rebellious, and has charm.

Gita Chandra played by Mina Anwar
Rani's mum is a strong-willed, independent businesswoman, who runs her own flower shop called Bloomin' Lovely. Gita really likes Sarah Jane - she appreciates the fact she wants to help Rani be a journalist. Gita is a lovely person, although she can occasionally be a little overpowering and tends to burst into things uninvited and not take the hint that it's time to leave.

Haresh Chandra played by Ace Bhatti
The new Head Teacher of Park Vale and Rani's dad, he can be prone to slight pomposity, due to the authority at the school. A great cook, he adores Rani and is very pleased that she has befriended Luke Smith, whose intelligence he respects. He's decidedly less impressed by her friendship with Clyde, who he sees as trouble and so always has one watchful eye on his daughter and the other on Clyde.

Torchwood Series 3 Rumours *potential spoilers*

Torchwood Series 3 is due to air on BBC One in 2009 (probably January like Series 2) so I've decided to compile some rumours. Beforehand, I should thank Planet Gallifrey and Adventures Through Time And Space for some of this information.

Cast Members:
  • John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Gareth David-Loyd, Kai Owen and Tom Price are all going to return as their usual characters.
  • Paul Copely as a man called Clem
  • Peter Capaldi as Mr Frobisher
  • Liz May Brice as Johnson
  • Presumably their will be two new TW members to replace Owen and Toshiko, however, a possible new member could be Dr Rupesh Pattenchali (see an image of him HERE), who is a doctor and therefore would fill the role of Owen's.

Possible Occurences:

  • The Hub may be destroyed in the first episode
  • Dr Rupesh may know all about Torchwood. He and Eve Myles (Gwen) have been seen filming and he explains why he is interested in Torchwood. He also said that he has noticed how much weirder things are in Cardiff.
  • The Children of Earth are actually children (as apposed to the people on Earth or when Davros called the Doctor's companions the Children of Time) who seem to get in a trance-like state while chanting: "We, we, we, we, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are coming, we are coming, we are coming, we are coming!" Click HERE to see that.
  • The team could be fired from Torchwood, as they seem to be reduced to stealing. Gwen was seen distracting a man on a bench while Rhys stole his laptop (See that HERE). Gwen stole a handbag (See HERE). Ianto and Rhys have a fight to distract someone when Gwen stole they're briefcase (Ianto and Rhys HERE).
  • Someone from the government tries to expose Torchwood

Catherine Zeta-Jones in Dr Who Movie

The Sun has reported today that Russell T Davies is "desperate" for Catherine Zeta-Jones, the famous Welsh actress, to star in a rumoured big-screen movie version of Doctor Who.

The Sun quoted Russell as saying: “Being from Wales myself, I’d love to have Catherine Zeta Jones as a companion for the Doctor.” When asked if someone would replace David Tennant as the Doctor for a movie (such as happened in previous Who movies) he said, “To have anyone else would be inconceivable.” and added “I haven't had time to spit, let alone make a film. It would be hard but it’s a lovely idea.”

The Favourite Episode Project

Right, so, seeing as though there isn't really any news in the world of Doctor Who and everyone seems to be getting quite bored, I've hatched a plan. So, this week I've got a voting poll for you favourite Series 1 episode and next week it will be favourite Series 2 episode, the week after is series 3 and so on. The polls won't include mini-specials (such as the Children in Need and Proms specials) as I don't count these as full episodes, but will include the Christmas specials.

For each week the 2 highest voted episodes will go into the final vote (without making it sound like a weird gameshow) where you will vote for your favourite out of the remaining 8 episodes to find out which is the overall average favourite episode since the 2005 revival.

Now you know what's happening, get voting!
Please comment.
Do you want Christopher Eccleston back for the 50th Anniversary?
YES!! - That would be absolutely brilliant!
Not sure - I'm not bothered either way, to be honest...
No - it's good to see the back of 'im!
