Another DWF Award!

Yes, that's right, Doctor Who Fansite has won yet another award (see below)! Hooray! However, this is not just a Blog Award, this is an award that was given to me by Sylar (formerly known as JP), from his website Tardis Updated, it is the 'Coolest Blog Award'! Here is is...

I will be displaying this award, soon, on my upcoming DWF Awards Wall (as I think part of the sidebar is getting quite cluttered with them all). Also, I would like to give a huge, "THANK YOU", to Sylar for awarding this to me. It is much appreciated!

ABC Gets On Time

Views of Doctor Who in Australia will be pleased to kow that ABC Television has finally managed to get the Christmas special on a lot earlier than usual. In previous years, the Christmas specials have been shown, months after BBC's airing, at the begining of each of the series, whereas this time te channel has managed to be able to air 'The Next Doctor' on 25th January 2009.

Do you watch Doctor Who on ABC? What do you think of this news?

Digital Spy Spoilers for 'The Next Doctor'

As usual when Doctor Who episodes are about to air, Digital Spy have revealed a few spoilers for 'The Next Doctor'. Here they are:

1. The mysterious Cybershades can jump quite high.

2. Neither the Doctor nor the Other Doctor recognise each other. But the latter doesn't remember much anyway.

3. There are two words that the Doctor never refuses.

4. The Other Doctor has a TARDIS - and it's magnificent.

5. For a while Rosita becomes the Doctor's companion

6. The script includes the customary line "what about the children?"

7. At least one previous incarnation of the Doctor makes an appearance.

8. Miss Hartigan is a very special lady.

9. The Other Doctor's fobwatch is a very important clue.

10. "I suppose ** *** ***, **** ***** ** *****."

What do you think of these spoilers?
Please comment.

Dervla Kirwan on Paul O-Grady Show

Just a reminder here to tell you that Dervla Kirwan is to appear on The Paul O'Grady Show today as one of Paul's guests. Dervla plays Miss Hartigan, a devious woman who is allied with the Cybermen, in this year's Christmas Special, 'The Next Doctor'.

We can assume that she could mention some currently unknown information on 'The Next Doctor', even if it is small, a clip will also probably be shown as well, unless one of the trailers is just shown.

The Paul O'Grady Show starts at 5:00pm on Channel 4.

Comic Maker is Back

The 17th door on the BBC Doctor Who website's Adventure Calendar has opened revealing the Comic Maker! The Comic maker was closed for a while for updates on it, such as: ways to print your comic, save your comic, etc.

I do enjoy and like the Comic Maker, but I can't help wondering why it took so long to reopen and why there was such a build-up to it, as the only updates I can see is, "Print page" and the ability to save the comic. I can't see any new scenes, companions, monsters, etc (please correct me in a comment if you can).

New Toys For 2009

Despite Doctor Who being mostly off-air in 2009, Character-Options are remaining vigile and, as you can see in recent previous DWF posts, they will still be releasing many toys during that year. Now they have released images of 4 new prop-like toys: Vortex Manipulator with mini sonic screwdriver, a Journel of Impossible Things with a mini sonic screwdriver, and River Song's Sonic Screwdriver (see images below).I'm not quite sure why a mini-sonic comes with 2 of them; it just seems like quite a random additional (especially as it's mini). Maybe with the Vortex Manipulator they could have added Captain Jack's Squareness Gun instead?

What do you think of these toys? Will you be getting them?

'The Next Doctor' - Brand New Trailer

A brand new trailer for 'The Next Doctor' aired on BBC One today at around 8:30pm, although it was originally planned to be shown at around 8:00pm (see a few posts previously). So without further ado, here's the brand new trailer...

"Is it too exciting?"

Please comment and feel free to vote in this week's poll on how much you're looking forward to 'The Next Doctor'.

Collect-and-Build Cyber-Wave

Pictures of a new wave of action figures has been released (see image below). The wave consists of 4 versions of Cybermen: 1966 'Tenth Planet' Cyberman, 1967 'Tomb of the Cybermen' Cyberman with 2 Cybermats, 1968 'The Invasion', and the 2008 'The Next Doctor' Cyber Leader. With each of these figures comes a part of the 1967 Cyber Controller from 'The Tomb of the Cybermen' (much in the same way as the K1 Robot in the classic series figure range).

These are the images of the figures and which version each of them are:
'The Tenth Planet' (1966) Cyberman

'The Tomb of the Cybermen' (1967) Cyberman - with 2 Cybermats

'The Invasion' (1968) Cyberman - with gun

'The Next Doctor' (2008) Cyber Leader

Collect-and-Build: 'The Tomb of the Cybermen' (1967) Cyber Controller

These 4 figures (with parts of the 1967 Cyber Controller) will be released by January 30th 2009 for £7.99 retail price.
Are you looking forward to these?
Will you be buying these figures?
Please comment.

Who Wants to be the Cyber Leader?

'The Next Doctor' has not even aired yet, with 1 week and 3 days to go (yes, I'm counting), and a brand new voice changer helmet of the Cyber Leader in this year's Christmas Special has been announced (see picture below). As usual with the Doctor Who voice-changer helmets, it includes speech, lights and sound effects!
Presumably, the Cyber Leader voice-changer helmet is released on December 31st 2008, as ForbiddenPlanet.co.uk apparently recieves it then.

Advent 15

Just a quick post here to tell you that the 15th Adventure Calendar door on the BBC Doctor Who website has opened. However, it has not yet got anything in it, it currently only bears the message, "Today's item will be launched at around 8pm. Be sure to tune in to BBC One just before then too."

This makes me wonder whether between the 2 programmes Watchdog (ending about 8:00pm)and Eastenders (starting around 8:00pm) there will be a brand new trailer for 'The Next Doctor' which will then be added as today's advent. Maybe? Well, the only way to find out is to turn your tele on at the end of Watchdog to see the BBC adverts after.

Brand New Action Figures!

Very exciting news of two brand new action figures by Character Options! One of the figures is of Jenny, the Doctor's daughter (I'll definitely be getting this), and the other is (drumroll please!) of the Brigadier! Hooray! Yes the Brig is to be made into an action figures. Although at the moment it is unknown whether this will be of the young Brig in the classic series range, or whether it will be old Brig as part of the upcoming Sarah Jane Adventures series 2 figure range.

But it doesn't stop there. Rumours of six brand-new figures are arousing (as well as a mysterious picture, which you can view below), this time from many different series of Doctor Who. The mystery figures are as follows:
  • Bannakaffalatta ('Voyage of the Damned')
  • Captain Jack without longcoat ('Utopia')
  • Clockwork Man - New version ('The Girl in the Fireplace')
  • Holographic 9th Doctor ('The Parting of the Ways')
  • Korwin ('42')
  • Old 10th Doctor ('The Sound of Drums' / 'Last of the Timelords')

Please don't get your hopes up, as these have not yet been confirmed and the figures in the picture could be customs. However, if these are confirmed DWF will report it A.S.A.P.

Also, we can assume that action figures of the Cyberleader, other Doctor, etc, from 'The Next Doctor' will probably be released, considered David Morrisey's character's importance in the episode.

What do you think about this? Which age of The Brigadier should it be? Aren't there enough Clockwork Man variations already? Is the Holographic 9th Doctor just another way of getting more cash?

Please comment.

UPDATE: In other action figure news...
The action figure of Astrid Peth which is part of the Companions Set (featuring Astrid, Rose, Martha, Donna, Sarah Jane, and K9) differs from the original figure of her, which was part of the 'Voyage of the Damned' set (featuring Astrid, the Doctor, and 2 Hosts). The difference of the figures is that the Companions Set version of Astrid has no apron and the 'Voyage of the Damned' Set does (see commparison below).

So, whichever you prefer, you can buy it now! However, for those of you who don't want the 'Voyage of the Damned' Set and already have the other figures in the Companions Set, there is news of a single-carded Astrid Peth figure coming soon.
I know I'll be getting that one!

Ianto Jones Action Figure

A picture of the long-awaited Ianto Jones action figure, from the Torchwood figure range by Sci-Fi Collector, has been released (see figure below). The Torchwood action figures are now available to buy for £9.99 and each figure come with a detachable plinth that has the Torchwood insignia on it.
Just a quick note here, I got the Weevil figure recently and it's awesome! I'd really recommend it!

Specials' Guides

The official BBC Doctor Who website has been updated, once more, with episode guides for the previous special episodes, 'The Christmas Invasion', 'The Runaway Bride', 'Time Crash' and 'Voyage of the Damned'.

Each episode guide contains videos, sounds, wallpapers and features (except 'Time Crash' which doesn't have videos) and 'The Runaway Bride' has some concept art as well.

Cosmic Collider

The BBC official Doctor Who website's Adventure Calender door 8 has opened and contains a game. The game is called Cosmic Collider and the aim is to "destroy the cosmic blocks to uncover exclusive pictures and a super-secret script extract from The Next Doctor".

UPDATE:
After many tries, I have finally completed Cosmic Collision and therefore found the script extract and the 5 desktop wallpapers. Here they are:

Script extract:
"The vicar glances up, falters.

A FIGURE is walking towards them, through the MIST & SNOW.
A SILHOUETTE. The vicar, perturbed, tries to carry on.

VICAR
...um, shall change our vile body, that it may be, um, like unto his...

But he looks up again. Can't believe what he's seeing.

Others mourners turn to look.

The silhouhette taking shape...

The mourners now open-mouthed with shock.

Coming closer..."

Sounds exciting! To play the game, just go to the BBC Doctor Who website.
