Here's the full press release...
Former companion to The Doctor and investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith returns for a third series of alien-busting adventures on CBBC this autumn.

This exciting series includes a special appearance from The Doctor, David Tennant, who joins The Sarah Jane Adventures – not just for a cameo appearance but for a full-blown starring role across two episodes

Sarah Jane's team includes her adopted son, Luke; his streetwise pal, Clyde Langer; their schoolmate, Rani, who lives opposite and has aspirations to become a journalist like Sarah Jane; and Mr Smith, their Xylok supercomputer, who resides in the attic. Add to that Sarah Jane's robot dog, K-9, and the team is set for six weeks of brand-new adventures.

Highlights include the introduction of a new alien race, the reptilian Veil, and their enemies the Judoon; an extraterrestrial girl who can make people play games against their will; a living painting; the inhabitants of a supposedly haunted house; monsters who want to infect the Earth with a strangely aggressive weed; and, finally, a chance for Sarah Jane to find personal happiness with someone who could be the perfect person to complete her family.

Elizabeth Sladen Interview on SJA Series 3

Digital Spy recently interviewed Elizabeth Sladen on the forthcoming third series of The Sarah Jane Adventures. She talks K-9, 'The Wedding of Sarah Jane', David's last day as the Tenth Doctor and a dusty attic! Here's the full interview...

You've got K-9 back in a larger capacity this series. How does he assist the team?
"Yes - we see more of him. He's out of the black hole and we can use him for what he can do for us - he can sense things, he can shoot at things and he can do mathematical things. There's a nice jealousy between him and Mr. Smith because they're on the same mechanical level. He is actually useful instead of trundling along - the kids can phone him and you can ask him to use his doggy brain!"

The first story involves the Judoon...
"Yes, we have a Judoon and we have [another alien] as well. I love the Judoon, and I love Paul Kasey, who's inside the Judoon - he's Foxy Bingo as well!"

What's your favourite story from the new series?
"That's really difficult. I love episodes one and two because I got to do things I haven't been called upon to do before and I loved it. I'll give too much away if I say though! It's something where she's not just Sarah Jane. I love five and six as well because we've got David and it's quite emotional. The haunted house one is so scary - we were screaming during it" We'll have to be careful how we show it because there's a frightening scene in a nursery and this is a show for eight-year-olds."

Episodes five and six are mysteriously titled 'The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith'...
"Sarah Jane has a reality check. Something at the end of one of the stories makes her realise something quite weird - that The Doctor may come back into her life - and I think there's a line like 'we'll all face the future together'. So there's an inkling that he'll be there and The Doctor gets something the other end to say that he's needed. I cried a lot, on and off. She allows herself to go to places she would never have dreamt of before, emotionally. It's very hard and of course it's written by Gareth Roberts, who always comes up with little nuggets that make me cry. I can't read it too often or I'm spent - I have to limit my reading of Gareth Roberts!"

What was it like having The Doctor as part of your show?
"Brilliant! I don't know if David enjoyed it so much though - as soon as we knew we'd got him, they started giving him loads of dialogue, so I think Dave thought 'Bloody hell! What have I come on to?' But he came to us straight off Who, and maybe it was a kind ease-out for him. His final scenes are with us - isn't that lovely? I know they wanted it for the last two episodes - 11 and 12 - and if it had been, I don't know what ending they would have done. David's schedule meant he had to film it as five and six though, so we treated it as five and six."

Could you not have shifted five and six to become 11 and 12?
"I don't know - we could have done but they decided not to, for some reason."

Was it sad filming your last scenes with David?
"I wasn't there on his last day because I had to do something else. I don't think it was sad, though - he was laughing a lot with the kids."

There are three more Who specials to go with David Tennant - are you returning to Who at all before he leaves?
"You'll have to wait and see!"

Are you open to the possibility of going back into Who with Matt Smith's Doctor?
"I never say never with Who, because look what's happened, but I don't see the call coming and I don't wait for it or expect it. It's a new dynasty now because of Russell leaving."

Have you met Matt yet?
"I met him on his first day when he came to look around the studio. Tracy, who's the executive producer on that, grabbed me and said 'Matt would love to meet you!' and I thought 'No, poor bugger - he wouldn't!' So I got foisted on him."

Are you filming Sarah Jane in HD this year?
"Yes we are. I only really want to see birds and David Attenborough in HD so I thought 'I'm not bloody looking forward to seeing my pores on the screen!' But I have to say, Christ, I think it looks like a film. Now the attic looks so bloody expensive! I look at it and think 'wow!'"

When I visited the attic it was very dusty...
"It's bloody filthy! Sarah Jane's an absolutely awful housekeeper. My daughter says my favourite programme is How Clean Is Your House? - give me a pair of rubber gloves and I'm happy. I bloody hated that filth. One director last year said 'let's get some smoke in here' and I thought 'we've got enough bloody dust, we don't need bloody smoke!' Nightmare."

There are rumours that a fourth series is in pre-production?
"It is, it's in pre-production, but we won't get the green light for quite some time I don't think."

Is Russell still going to be involved?
"Yes - it's his baby! I just got a text from him in LA saying: 'Oh, hooray! I'm sitting in sunny LA - I can't believe I'm watching Sarah Jane defeat whatever it was. Life doesn't get better! Lots of love.' Really lovely. He's there for everyone, not just me, and he loves the programme. Also Julie [Gardner] is the best exec producer a girl with a sonic lipstick could have. In the readthroughs they bring so much energy and appreciation. They're the bones of the whole series."

How long do you see yourself doing the show for?
"I don't know - I guess until I'm wheeled on in my bath chair! But no, I think I'll know. I think we'll all know. I left Who when I wanted to leave. I have to leave when there's still life in her - I've got to leave people wanting. I'm never going to stay until there's no more life in it. It's still got to be fresh and it's still got to be good. I owe it to her and to Russell - I would never hang onto anything. I think it's got another series in it though [after this], I really do."

Series 3 of The Sarah Jane Adventures begins on Thursday 15th October with the first two-parter story 'Prisoner of the Judoon' and continues with next day with the second episode.

SJA - 'Prisoner of the Judoon' Parts 1 & 2 Synopses

The BBC Press Office have released the two synopses for the first two-parter story in The Sarah Jane Adventures Series 3.

1.1: 'Prisoner of The Judoon' - Part 1
Investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith, one-time companion to The Doctor, is back for a third series of alien-busting adventures, from creator Russell T Davies, which also features a special appearance from The Doctor himself, David Tennant, who stars in two episodes.

Sarah Jane is accompanied by her adopted son, Luke, his streetwise pal, Clyde Langer, their schoolmate, Rani, who lives opposite and has aspirations to become a journalist like Sarah Jane, and their Xylok super computer in the attic, Mr Smith. Sarah Jane's robot dog, K-9, also joins the gang on their adventures.

In the first of this two-part adventure, Sarah Jane and the gang face the most dangerous day of their lives, as the rhino-like Judoon return. When prisoner Androvax the Destroyer crash-lands on Earth, a Veil is set free and starts to turn Earth's technology against itself. And his next intended victim is Sarah Jane.

1.1: 'Prisoner of The Judoon' - Part 2
Luke, Clyde and Rani fight their most fearsome enemy yet – Sarah Jane Smith – in the second episode of this two-part, alien-busting adventure.

As the Judoon fleet approaches Earth, it's a race against time to stop Androvax. But with Genetech's technology on the rampage, and Rani's parents taken prisoner, can anything stop the Army of the Infinitesimal?

The Sarah Jane Adventures begins with Part 1 of 'Prisoner of the Judoon' on Thursday 15th October and Part 2 continues on Friday 15th, the following day.

Nigel Havers on SJA

Nigel Havers, the man who will be playing Sarah Jane Smith's fiancée in The Sarah Jane Adventures Series 3 story 'The Wedding of Sarah Jane', been interviewed recently in What's On TV magazine about his role in new comedy Lunch Monkeys.

When asked "what's next?", Havers replied: "I’m playing an alien in The Sarah Jane Adventures. I had a great time. It was fantastic seeing Doctor Who and the Tardis."

So Sarah Jane's fiancée is an alien in disguise? My theory - and what I really want to be true - is that Havers' character is a Zygon is disguise. Wouldn't you just love to see the Zygons again?

The Zygons first and only appearance to date was in 1975's 'Terror of the Zygons' featuring the Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane, Harry Sullivan, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and UNIT. Zygons have the ability to shape shift into being they had captured and kept wired up to special machines, but the form must be renewed every 2 hours so they must keep the subject alive in order to use its body print. The Zygons had their own cyborg creature called the Skarasen - the lactic fluid from which they needed to feed on.

Parting of the Ways

It has been confirmed that Sheridan Smith is soon to leave the Eighth Doctor Big Finish audio plays. Sheridan's character Lucie Miller will be parting from Paul McGann's Doctor in the next series' first story, 'Death in Blackpool' with an emotional parting for the two of them.

Nicholas Briggs, executive producer for the Doctor Who Big Finish audios and voice of the Daleks and Cybermen, commented: "It may seem strange to begin the season with Lucie's exit, but we've some interesting twists and turns planned."

'Death in Blackpool' is due for release in December 2009.

Richard Curtis on Writing Series 5

In a BBC News Entertainment interview, Lizo Mzimba recently asked Richard Curtis about his confirmed involvement in Series 5 of Doctor Who. Curtis said, "I can tell you that it's set in the past, that it features somebody famous, that it features something very nasty, and I hope it will be both scary, funny and a bit touching."

He added, after being asked what it's like writing for the Eleventh Doctor,"Writing Doctor Who is such a joy. I started off, apparantly, over-writing him a little bit, and I had Steven Moffat come to me and say 'he doesn't talk like that - he's informal, he's modern'. So I've crushed it down and added in a few colloquialisms, and it's really fun."

Curtis also said, that very day - the day of the interview - he had written a chase scene. Lizo also asked when filming was likely to begin and gave the suggestion, "February?" However, Curtis confirmed that February is, in fact, likely to be the air date of this episode! This has now lead to fan suggestions that his episode must be second (considering that Steven Moffat is probably writing the first) or somewhere else near the beginning of the series.

If Richard is correct in saying February is when his episode will air, this means an earlier start for Doctor Who Series 5 than any other series since 2005.

This is something that Sarah Jane is keen to keep from Bannerman Road, and Series Two’s newest addition, fourteen-year-old Rani Chandra and her parents Gita and Haresh. But sparky Rani is a wannabe journalist and, like Sarah Jane, is not the type to let a mystery go unsolved!"

Sarah Jane Adventures Series 3 Episodes Preview

Digital Spy have compiled all the information which has been previously released to form a preview of Series 3 of Sarah Jane Adventures and each of its episodes...

"After a brilliant debut year and a so-so second season, The Sarah Jane Adventures is back in the autumn with a new run of six two-parters. Familiar faces such as The Doctor himself and a variety of intriguing new characters await us, with faithful mutt K-9 appearing in at least half of the season following two previous cameos. Read on for a rundown of the treats that lie in store..."

1.1-2: 'Prisoner of the Judoon'
"Adopting a similar policy to last season's opening Sontaran tale, the first story features the return of some aesthetically displeasing aliens from Doctor Who. The rhino-like intergalactic law enforcers from 'Smith and Jones' are back, with Nick Briggs once again on vocal duties.
Producer Nikki Wilson told SFX magazine: "The Judoon are joining us in our series opener, alongside a brand new monster, a reptilian character called Androvax, a Veil. He's under arrest when one of the Judoon's life carriers crashes on Earth, so a Judoon's hunting down his prisoner who's escaped."

2.3-4: 'The Mad Woman in the Attic'
"Sadly not a remake of a legendary Cracker episode of the same name, unless butchering innocent women on trains is suitable CBBC material these days. The contents of the story are shrouded in secrecy, but the cast includes Eleanor Tomlinson, Toby Parkes, Souad Faress, Gregg Sulkin and Kate Fleetwood."

3.5-6: 'The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith'
"Whenever the chiming of wedding bells can be heard in the Whoniverse, it's a sign that something strange is happening. Just look at Gwen Cooper's shapeshifter-dominated wedding in Torchwood. Just what lies in store for Sarah Jane as she prepares to walk down the aisle? She'd better have a sonic wedding ring to accessorise with her lip gloss."
"The big news is that David Tennant will be featuring prominently as The Doctor in this story. "Viewers thought they may have to wait until November for the next full episode of Doctor Who," stated showrunner Russell T Davies, "but this is an extra special treat. It's not just a cameo from David - this is a full-on appearance for The Doctor as he and Sarah Jane face their biggest threat ever."
"Sarah Jane herself, actress Elisabeth Sladen, added: 'When I heard the news that David was going to be joining us, I was absolutely over the moon. Not only has it made my day but it will also make the viewers' day. It's fantastic news that Sarah Jane is going to spend some time working with The Doctor again and is testament to just how successful this CBBC series is."
"But what is this big threat that awaits us? Could it lie in the form of the debonair Nigel Havers, who has personified suave in a glittering acting career?"
"Sladen's real-life husband Brian Miller shows up in front of the camera, too. Nikki Wilson told Doctor Who Magazine: 'He was simply ideal casting for this pivotal role, which sees him in conflict with Sarah Jane and the gang. Although there's a lot more going on with Brian's character than might first appear.' In addition, the ever-sinister Trickster is lurking around the church. The prospect of him and The Doctor locking horns is mouthwatering..."

4.7-8: 'The Eternity Trap'
"This tale is reportedly a ghost story which features an extraterrestrial that can make people play games against their will. Floella Benjamin reprises her role as Professor Celeste Rivers from the Pharos Institute, who previously appeared in the stories 'The Lost Boy' and 'The Day Of The Clown' as an ally of Sarah Jane. The main villain is called Erasmus Darkening, played by veteran actor Donald Sumpter."

5.9-10: 'Mona Lisa's Revenge'
"Has someone been watching Ghostbusters II? This brilliantly titled two-parter involves a painting that appears to come alive, although it's not the first time that Mona Lisa has featured in the Whoniverse. For the superb 1979 story 'The City Of Death' is partially set in the Parisian art gallery Le Louvre, which houses Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece."
"Former Corrie star Suranne Jones guests in this episode, but has she swapped Moaner Karen for Mona Lisa? Possibly, but this has yet to be confirmed. Nikki Wilson certainly has high hopes for her role, as she stated: "We conceived the character in a story meeting about 18 months ago and immediately named Suranne as perfect to play her - never imagining we'd actually get someone who's in so much demand."
"Drop The Dead Donkey legend Jeff Rawle appears too, 25 years after starring in the Doctor Who story 'Frontios'. Newsround presenter, BBC Entertainment Correspondent (and more importantly Whovian) Lizo Mzimba is also part of this story, presumably playing himself."

6.11-12: 'The Gift'
"Very little is known about the season finale, but it will surely please fans of all things Raxacoricofallapatorian. That's about as much fun to type as it is to say. It looks like the Slitheen mob are in conflict with cousins from their home world - the Blathereens. Whatever its merits, the final two episodes look like they'll be a real gas!"

Richard Curtis Writes for Series 5?

The Sun - tabloid, red-top, 'newspaper' notorious for picking false rumours out of the ether - have reported that Richard Curtis, best-known for writing big-hit comedy TV shows and movies such as Black Adder, The Vicar of Dibley and Love Actually, will be writing an episode of Doctor Who for Series 5.

This article seems more plausible than their usual claims though (a particularly funny one claims that Woody Allen is the Eleventh Doctor) because, apart from the odd "Insiders have suggested...", this time they have quite a few quotes from Curtis himself, who says, "There will be a monster. And a famous historical figure will battle the monster." And according to The Sun: "Insiders have suggested the historical figure could be the scheming Sir Edmund Blackadder."
Try not to laugh too hard.

"Played bv Rowan Atkinson, the character appeared in four series that spanned eras including The Regency and World War One before being axed 20 years ago. He was assisted by bungling sidekick Baldrick (Tony Robinson), famed for his 'cunning plans'."

Curtis says he signed up to write Doctor Who in order to impress who are big fans of Doctor Who: "It's tremendously good fun and a treat for my children. These days the things you can watch together as a family are much fewer so when you get something like Doctor Who or The X Factor it is such a pleasure to sit down as a family. I am very interested in time travel for some reason or other. I am writing a film about it but on a low budget with no spectacular special effects. Maybe it's a desire to get out of being old. Sometimes you do just love the idea that you could go back in time and change things."
