It has recently been confirmed that the next Doctor Who 2009 special, 'Planet of the Dead', will be filmed in high definition for the BBC HD channel.In the past, the production designer Edward Thomas has been quoted in Doctor Who Magazine has saying that filming in high definition for Doctor Who would be a "nightmare", as this filming technique is already used on Torchwood.

I think it's great news - because hopefully Sky will have fixed up my HD box by Easter :-)
