Series 4 Wave 1 - Out Now!

The Doctor Who Series 4 Wave 1 action figures are out now in shops. Argos, for example, have the Series 4 figures and more Doctor Who stuff on a whole page in their new catalogue.

I'm going to get these, how about you?
Thanks a lot to DoctorWhoToys.net for these pictures.

No Daleks In Series 5

The new head writer, Steven Moffat, has confirmed at Comic Con in San Diego that he will not bring back the Daleks when his series arrives in 2010. From the Doctor Who 'revival' in 2005, with Christopher Eccleston's 9th Doctor, the Daleks have appeared in every series (nine episodes in total).

Moffat said this: “Fans always look back, but shows have to look forward. There’s a brand new audience of kids for Doctor Who each year and they have to think it’s their programme, not some relic that belongs to their parents. I’m as obsessed with the show’s past as many in the audience, but I have to resist my impulse and keep everything fresh.”

I think it's reasonable, after all... nine episodes?! That's over-use isn't it? What do you think?

UPDATE: Can I just point out to the people commenting on this post saying the Daleks are in Series 5. Yes, I know now, thanks. If you could just take a look at the date this news was posted and then to when we found out the Daleks are in Series 5 from the trailer, you'll realise this was in fact posted months before we discovered it.

Freema Abandons Torchwood!

Many scripts for Torchwood Series 3 have been scrapped after Freema Agyeman (Martha Jones in Doctor Who) has announced that instead of doing Torchwood she will be moving to the BBC's major rival, ITV, to act in the British version of the USA show Law and Order.

It was previously believed that Freema would reprise her role as Martha in Torchwood's five-part mini-season after a successful few episodes on the programme earlier this year. Apparently Russell T Davies is seriously annoyed by this news, as it was him who gave Freema her 'big break' in Doctor Who.

A source (presumably an insider) told The Sun newspaper: "This has really mucked things about. We’ve had to go back and re-edit loads of scripts because she’s not going to be in it. ITV is the Beeb's bitter rival, so the fact she's going over there to star in a big new project has not gone down well at all."

I have to say, I wasn't very happy at this news, what do you think? Please make comments below...

Longer Xmas 2008 Trailer

This longer trailer for the Chrismas Special 2008 shown at this year's Comic Con, July 24 2008. I expect this trailer will be shown on TV in the near future, therefore added to the BBC's YouTube in proper, when that happens I'll be sure to update you all on the subject. Here's the trail (sorry about the poor quality).

'Fires of Pompeii' Action-Figures

Character Options are surely pushing themselves this year, as so far they have released Series 4 figures of the Doctor (with 5 Adipose), Donna, Ood Sigma, Natural Ood, Sontarans (General Staal, Commander Skorr and Sontaran troopers), High Priestess, Journey's End set (including Supreme Dalek, Dalek with special weapon and the almighty Davros himself).

Now they have released an image of the upcoming action-figure set for 'The Fires of Pompeii' (click the image to enlarge). This includes an 8 inch Pyrovile in all it's glory and a Roman soldier (shouldn't the High Priestess be there as well?). Here's what Character have to say:

"Recreate scenes from the excellent second episode of Doctor Who Series 4 with this amazing Fires of Pompeii deluxe action figure set!"

I know I'll be getting it, how about you?

Doctor Who Novels

The blurbs for the Doctor Who novels to be released on April 16th next year have been released. Click the covers to enlarge.

Judgement of the Juddon - by Colin Brake
Elvis the King Spaceport has grown into the sprawling city-state of New Memphis - an urban jungle, where organized crime is rife. But the launch of the new Terminal 13 hasn't been as smooth as expected. And things are about to get worse... When the Doctor arrives, he finds the whole terminal locked down. The notorious Invisible Assassin is at work again, and the Judoon troopers sent to catch him will stop at nothing to complete their mission. With the assassin loose on the mean streets of New Memphis, the Doctor is forced into a strange alliance. Together with teenage private eye Nikki and a ruthless Judoon Commander, the Doctor soon discovers that things are even more complicated - and dangerous - than he first thought...

Prisoner of the Daleks - by Trevor Baxendale
The Daleks are advancing, their empire constantly expanding in to Earth's space. The Earth forces are resisting the Daleks in every way they can. But the battles rage on across countless solar systems. And now the future of our galaxy hangs in the balance... The Doctor finds himself stranded on board a starship near the frontline with a group of ruthless bounty hunters. Earth Command will pay them for every Dalek they kill, every eye stalk they bring back as proof. With the Doctor's help, the bounty hunters achieve the ultimate prize: a Dalek prisoner - intact, powerless, and ready for interrogation. But where the Daleks are involved, nothing is what it seems, and no one is safe. Before long the tables will be turned, and how will the Doctor survive when he becomes a prisoner of the Daleks?

The Slitheen Excursion - by Simon Guerrier
1500BC - King Actaeus and his subjects live in mortal fear of the awesome gods who have come to visit their kingdom in ancient Greece. Except the Doctor, visiting with university student June, knows they're not gods at all. They're aliens. For the aliens, it's the perfect holiday - they get to tour the sights of a primitive planet and even take part in local customs. Like gladiatorial games, or hunting down and killing humans who won't be missed. With June's enthusiastic help, the Doctor soon meets the travel agents behind this deadly package holiday company - his old enemies the Slitheen. But can he bring the Slitheen excursion to an end without endangering more lives? And how are events in ancient Greece linked to a modern-day alien plot to destroy what's left of the Parthenon?

The Star In The Reasonably Priced TARDIS

Apparently two BBC staff members had the wacky idea of mixing David Tennant's time on Top Gear with clips of the TARDIS (you'd think they'd have better things to be doing) and the end result is quite funny and rather cleverly put together. Take a look...

"What am I looking in the wingmirror for, there's nothing behind me!"
