Who Loses Out

The BAFTA Television Awards took place in London last Sunday (26th April) and our favourite programme, Doctor Who, was nominated in the Best Drama category. However, it unfortunately lost out to BBC One's Wallander (I mean, what were they thinking?).

On the bright side, Jane Tranter, Controller of BBC Drama and the women who commissioned Doctor Who's return in 2005, won the BAFTA Special Award. Jane has contrubuted to a huge variety of BBC shows, and has also worked with David Tennant (who presented the Special Award) on Casanova in 2005.

Hannah Murray is NOT a Companion

Well, the post name says it all, while being interviewed recently by Lizo Mzimba (BBC News entertainment reporter) Hannah Murray confirmed that she is NOT the Doctor Who Series 5 companion.

Murray said, "it was something I could never consider cos I'm doing a degree at the moment". She also says that the new companion was "definitely not" her.

What do you think she might have been like as a companion? Do you think she would make a good companion, or not?

A 10 teaser for Torchwood: Children of Earth has been released! Here it is...

'The Waters of Mars' Trailer

As you all probably know, the very first trailer for the second of the four 2009 Specials, 'The Waters of Mars', was shown at the end of 'Planet of the Dead'.

'The Waters of Mars' stars Lindsay Duncan as the one-off companion and by the looks of the trailer the enemy might be something that possesses people and has the power of water.

What do you think of this trailer? What are your theories for this episode?

2009 Specials - News and Rumours

Sci-fi fanatic website Io9 are reporting the return of Donna, Wilf, and Sylvia Noble in the last of the 2009 specials (also the last episode of David Tennant's). However, this time Wilf is the companion, not Donna...
Fans observed some filming at Donna Noble's house, in which all the Nobles took part. Wilf was wearing reindeer horns at various points, walking towards the TARDIS. In another scene, Wilf was sitting on his doorstop looking sad, and the Doctor threw a rock to get his attention. Wilf comes over and says the Doctor can't park his TARDIS there, Donna will see it.
Wilf says Donna had a "funny turn" when she saw "the book." "The book" is apparently
not the Journal Of Impossible Things, but another book, Fighting The Future by Joshua Naismith; Naismith is the guy who was falling to his knees as an alien spaceship landed, in the scenes shot last week. Watch that HERE or HERE[Ed - the word "Naismith" is also rumoured to be printed on the london bus in 'Planet of the Dead', maybe that is the specials' arc like Bad Wolf?]
Wilf also accuses the Doctor of being a "chicken," and Wilf talks on the radio, apparently to UNIT. [Ed - It looks as though UNIT features heavily in all the 2009 specials] Finally, the Doctor gets in the TARDIS, and Wilf comes with him because he can't stay with Sylvia. Sylvia runs up to the TARDIS as it disappears, yelling, "Give him back! Give my father back!" And then the TARDIS is gone. Donna comes out and asks Sylvia why she's yelling at thin air again.
  • John Simm has also been confirmed as appearing in the final special; he does have blonde hair but it is unclear yet whether he will wear a wig of some sort to cover this possibly for continuity.
  • After 'Planet of the Dead' there will be a preview of the 2nd 2009 Special and the title will be officially confirmed.
  • Finally, the 2nd Special's title has been rumoured as 'The Waters of Mars'! Could this mean the definite return of Sutekh ('Pyramids of Mars') or the Ice Warriors ('The Curse of Peladon', etc)? The latter certainly seems to be the more popular and likely choice, we'll just have to wait for the preview after 'Planet of the Dead'!
Which of these are you most excited about? What do you think of the Nobles and John Simm returning, or the 2nd special's title and preview?

DWF - Awaiting New Layout

As some of you might already know, Doctor Who Fansite is soon getting a brand-new look! I have already decided on the new layout and the colours and fonts I am going to use, now I just need to 'convert' each exsisting section of DWF.

Also, with the new look comes two brand-new sections of DWF: Episode Guides, every single episode from 2005 onwards is here complete with synopsis, videos, etc.
The other new section is Competitions, so far I have added three competitions (but that will get bigger): Caption Competiton; almost everyone knows this one where you come up with a funny and witty caption for a screenshot each week. The second competiton is called Are You A Real Fan? where each time there is a new question about Doctor Who which range through the classic, to new series, but these aren't everyday, easy fandom questions. The third competition is Guess The Episode and it does what it says on the tin, each week I post a new screenshot from any episode of Doctor Who (from 2005) and you guess what episode it's from.

So there you go, a little taster of what's to come with the new look. However, like I said before, I need time to convert all the sections into the new layout, therefore Doctor Who Fansite will be closed from around 7:15pm today and will reopen tomorrow from somewhere between 4:00pm and 8:00pm.

'Planet of the Dead' Trailer

The brand-new 'Planet of the Dead' trailer was shown earlier on BBC HD earlier. A very exciting element is the strange, flying stingray-like creatures looming over the planet's desert.
Something I thought of is that the flying, stingray creatures could be the same creatures glimpsed in a flashback in the opening moments of 'Army of Ghosts' when Rose tells The Doctor she's staying with him forever. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, I've put a screenshot of it here, or you can watch the flashback opening HERE and go to 0:44.

What do you think of this trailer?
please comment.
Do you want Christopher Eccleston back for the 50th Anniversary?
YES!! - That would be absolutely brilliant!
Not sure - I'm not bothered either way, to be honest...
No - it's good to see the back of 'im!
