More Torchwood Audios - Kai Owen Confirmed

The BBC has announced recently, in their BBC Radio 4 weekly newsletter, that they have commissioned another three full-cast Torchwood audio plays that are now in production and are scheduled to be broadcast over the radio station later this Summer.

The cover of my favourite of the
previous audio dramas, 'Asylum'.
The newsletter also revealed that this new three-part series of audios are being made in Los Angeles, where the new series Torchwood: Miracle Day has been filmed for the most part (and wraps up in a few days). The previous four full-cast audio plays of Torchwood, on the other hand, were produced and recorded entirely in the UK and were broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in Summer 2009 on three consecutive days in the week before ‘Children of Earth’ aired.

The report also stated that the main cast of the new series will all feature – so presumably new-recruits Mekhi Phifer (Rex Matheson) and Alexa Havins (Esther Drummond) are also included as well as other international characters.

But Kai Owen (plays Gwen’s hubby, Rhys, as you probably know) has made a specific confirmation over Twitter that he will be starring in the audios as well.
In response to the question, “BBC4 Newsletter said there is going to be a new 3 part Torchwood Audio Play this summer - Are you recording for that?”, Owen replied…

Yes!! Recording next week x

No further details about the nature of the production such as whether Starz is still involved in the audios (and if so how they will release them in the US, as they do not have their own radio station) or anything about further casting or storylines are yet to be confirmed.

Torchwood: Miracle Day, starring John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Kai Owen, Mekhi Phifer and Alexa Havins premieres this Summer on 8th July.
